Game Recap

The Rangers and Guardians concluded a three-game series on Wednesday. The game, though, started fifteen minutes later because of rain, despite it not raining at the time. Texas sent Dane Dunning to the mound after coming off a good outing against the Seattle Mariners last Friday. Meantime, the Rangers had to encounter the Cleveland ace, Shane Bieber. Unfortunately, the rain started raining heavily around the bottom of the third inning on Wednesday. "You're just sitting around trying to prepare, [and] trying to get out there," Rangers manager Chris Woodward said when discussing the challenges of a two plus hour rain delay. "I thought it was beneficial to get Bieber out of the game. We didn't take advantage of it."

Both offenses went down in order in the first inning quickly against Dunning and Bieber. Then each pitcher allowed their first base hit in the second. However, the Guardians strung together multiple hits in the second and third innings. Andrés Giménez doubled to left center, scoring Josh Naylor and the night's first run. Austin Hedges singled to left field with two outs, scoring Giménez, putting Cleveland up 2-0 after two innings. In the third inning, the Guardians reached base five straight times against Dunning. Cleveland picked up four consecutive singles and a double, equaling two runs. "It was typical Shane Bieber," Woodward said. "We faced their best arms and that's what happens when you're down 4-0."

In the top of the fifth inning, the Rangers picked up a couple of hits by Adolis García and Nathaniel Lowe (Lowe's second hit of the night) after one hit in the first four innings. However, the umpires brought the tarp out after the Lowe single. Then, after an hour and fifty-two minutes, Eli Morgan picked off García at second base, and the Rangers couldn't get any traction in the fifth. Both offenses went cold after the rain delay with six hits (three each) after the delay, and Cleveland's four runs early stood.

Dane Dunning's night Wednesday was cut short due to the rain delay. After a simplistic first inning, Dunning struggled after that. He allowed four runs and nine hits and struck out one in his four innings. It was an abbreviated sixty-four pitches in his outing. "His stuff was a little off today," Woodward said. "I don't think his sinker didn't have the same lateral movement." Brock Burke came in for the Rangers after the delay. Then Burke ran into some issues in the sixth inning with two hits allowed but didn't allow a run. In Burke's outing, he struck out three Guardians. Matt Moore allowed one hit and struck out one in his inning of work. His strikeout of Josh Naylor nailed Moore his 899th career strikeout. Matt Bush pitched a clean eighth inning, a much-needed bounce back after a rough outing Sunday against Seattle.
