Overview

The Rangers are back to Globe Life Field to kick off the home portion of 2022. They'll turn to the Texas native (Royse City), Taylor Hearn, to stop a Rockies offense that had a good showing against the mighty Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend. The question for Hearn is to take the next step and become an ace of the pitching staff. Last season, Taylor pitched over one-hundred innings, something he had done professionally only once in his career (2018). Now it's about developing consistency while stretched out. It's also special for guys who signed long-term like Marcus Semien and Corey Seager. "They're both pretty locked in," Rangers manager Chris Woodward told me before the game. "I'm sure they have a ton of emotion inside, they may not show it at times, but it means a lot to them. In their minds, they're building a champion." "You're always excited for the home opener, especially with a new team," Corey Seager said before the game. "It's exciting and brings all the nerves back."

The offensive side brings momentum from Canada to Arlington. The Rangers lead all of MLB in runs scored (23) which is impressive considering eight teams played four games over the weekend compared to Texas' three. They'll face a pitcher that gave the team fits last season in Austin Gomber. Gomber had a decent season last year for the Rockies. His last start of 2021 came at Globe Life Field against the Rangers on August 31st. He walked six batters and allowed four runs in 4.1 innings after throwing a six-inning shutout three months prior in Denver. The fans, players, coaches, and everyone else waited six months for today's day, specifically in the DFW area, as the Rangers' roar will electrify Arlington today.

Pregame Notables

  1. Monday and Tuesday will be the ninth and tenth games the Rockies will play at Globe Life Field. That's the most for any opposition outside of the AL West or Postseason.

  2. Monday will be Taylor Hearn's first start against the Rockies. The previous two outings were relief roles of two innings (2021) and one inning (2020). In last year's outing, he allowed two runs in two innings.

  3. Despite scoring the most runs in MLB, the Rangers aren't in the top three in AVG, OBP, OPS, or SLUG. They are second in MLB with a .414 average, with runners in scoring position behind the Oakland Athletics.

  4. Bud Black picked up his 1,000 career managerial win on Sunday against the Dodgers. Thirteen of the 1,000 career wins have come against the Rangers.

  5. Corey Seager is at the same locker he used in the 2020 Postseason which he was NLCS and World Series MVP.

  6. Rangers are 25-25 in home openers all time.

  7. The twenty-three runs scored in the first three games is tied for 7th all time in Rangers history with runs scored through three games.

  8. Rangers dropped five of their last seven against the Rockies but are 12-10 since 2015. All time series is tied 24-24, but Texas is 14-10 in Arlington against Colorado
