Overview

The Rangers and Angels will meet today on a special day in baseball, Jackie Robinson Day. Seventy-five years ago, Jackie Robinson changed the color barrier by becoming the first African American to play in Major League Baseball. It didn’t alter baseball only, but it changed sports and became one of the more prominent days in sports history. I urge you to read the full story on what Jackie Robinson meant and the amount of talent baseball fans witnessed after 1947. It’s mind-blowing to think that if it weren’t for Jackie, we would never see guys like Willie Mays, Ozzie Smith, Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey Sr/Jr, and many others. The Rangers and Angels will wear number 42 as a tradition on the field at Globe Life Field today.

Texas sends Matt Bush to start the game. Initially, Spencer Howard’s spot was, but a blister put him on the ten-day injured list. “[It was a] cracked fingernail that caused a blister,” Rangers general manager Chris Young said Thursday. [Spencer] tried to get through it, but it was limiting his ability to throw this week. [We] decided the prudent thing to do was get him a little extra rest.” Matt Bush is scheduled to only pitch the first inning. The other definitive thing for today's game on the mound, Kolby Allard will get work.

The Rangers offense will get a crack at Reid Detmers from the Angels, coming off a ten-run offensive performance Thursday. It’ll be the first time in his career that Detmers faces the Rangers. Detmers threw seventy-five pitches in four innings in his first start of 2022 (vs. Houston). He allowed two runs and three hits. However, he allowed two home runs in last Friday’s outing.
