Game Recap

Tuesday, the Rangers got Dane Dunning back from the injured list to make his first start since July 10th. The Rangers optioned Taylor Hearn back to Round Rock before the game to make room. Texas needed momentum after dropping three of their last four and six straight to the Seattle Mariners. Eight of the eleven meetings between the Rangers and Mariners have resulted in two or fewer runs. The Mariners sent rookie George Kirby to face Texas for the second time in 2022. "Our guys fought their butts off tonight," Rangers manager Chris Woodward said. "We battled [and] did everything we could. Dunning was good, the rest of the bullpen came in and did a good job, [but] at the end like it's happened a lot lately, just one or two plays short."

The Mariners greeted Dane Dunning rudely as Julio Rodríguez homered to begin Seattle's offensive night. It was a shot to left field and Julio's first game back since last Sunday, the 17th, as Rodríguez missed time with a sore wrist. Seattle added another first-inning run with a Kyle Lewis RBI single to score Eugenio Suárez. Both teams could not push anything across from the second inning to the seventh inning. After both starters left, the Rangers got to the Seattle bullpen. Adolis García doubled with one out, and Nathaniel Lowe followed with an RBI single to cut the Seattle lead to 2-1. The Lowe single was Texas' first at-bat with a runner in scoring position on Tuesday.

The Mariners quickly answered the Rangers' run with a home run. Then, Cal Raleigh hit a shot to left field that went to the Seattle bullpen. The Rangers got a rally going in the eighth. With two on, Adolis hit what only I can describe as a corkscrew nubber that started foul and bounced fair. It scored both Corey Seager and Charlie Culberson to even the game. Sam Haggerty stole second base to put himself in scoring position, but Matt Bush got Abraham Toro to pop out to keep the game tied after eight. The Rangers took their first lead with Ezequiel Duran's RBI single scoring Leody Taveras. The inning started with two-strike single by Leody, Nick Solak moved him over with a bunt, and Duran's single.

The Mariners tied things up with two hits in the ninth inning off Brett Martin. Cal Raleigh beat the Rangers again with a double scoring JP Crawford. Texas intentionally walked both Rodríguez and Ty France to load the bases in the ninth. Carlos Santana hit a fly ball to center field, but Leody didn't have enough arm strength at the plate and Raleigh beat the throw to score the winning run. "We fell short, but I really appreciate the effort that our guys gave. We fought, we had a good game plan going in there, guys made plays late in the game, and gave ourselves a chance to win," Woodward said. "We couldn't get it done."

Dane Dunning's Tuesday finished with five innings. His eighty-five pitches are a little less than average. However, a slightly less workload was expected since Dunning was coming off the injury. After a struggling first inning, Dunning finished strong. Dane completed his line with four hits, two runs, three walks, and five strikeouts.

Matt Moore threw two innings, but allowed his first home run of the season. Moore threw twenty-five pitches and twenty-one strikes allowing two hits, one run, and striking out two. Matt Bush walked a batter but stranded the runner pitching a scoreless eighth inning. Brett Martin allowed two hits and both runs to score to end the game. "Martin has been so good for us [but] he just made a mistake to Raleigh [and] left a fastball outer half instead of trying to jam that fastball in," Woodward said. "Credit to Raleigh, he did a good job."
