Overview
The Rangers head down to the northern side of the bay Friday to take on the Oakland Athletics. Of the four division oppositions Texas faced in 2021, the Rangers had the most success against Oakland, dropping only ten of nineteen a year ago. However, the Rangers had to make a roster spot to accommodate Friday's start with the Jon Gray injury. On Thursday, the club announced Glenn Otto would get the start at Ring Central Coliseum against the Athletics. The projected timeline for Gray is that he'll miss one start with the MCL sprain on his left knee.
The Rangers will send Otto to the mound Friday. Glenn made six starts in his rookie season with a few tough outings. The key is not letting an inning snowball on Otto, which was a significant issue that pitching coach Doug Mathis and Glenn himself alluded to. "I learned a lot last year," Otto said in spring training. "Last year, I had a lot of outings I wished went the other way." The Rangers currently holding the momentum after Thursday's emotional victory, so how can the team ride that for a winning streak?
On the other side, the Oakland Athletics will send rookie Adam Oller to the mound. Oller is a Conroe, Texas native (another battle of native Texans though the game is in Oakland and not Texas). The Athletics picked him up in a trade that sent Chris Bassitt to the New York Mets. Adam was part of the Rule 5 draft in 2019 when the Mets picked him up from the San Francisco Giants, and in 2016 drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates. It's also a new look Oakland Athletics lineup that doesn't include guys like Matt Chapman, Starling Marte, or Matt Olson. However, that hasn't stopped the Oakland Athletics from winning, as the A's are currently a half-game behind the AL West-leading Los Angeles Angels.

Pregame Notables
In his MLB debut in Tampa Bay against the Rays, Oller allowed five runs, five hits, and three walks. Three of the four outs recorded were strikeouts.
Glenn Otto is making his second start at Oakland. Last year, he allowed eight earned runs in 3.1 innings. Six of the eight runs came in the second inning.
In the Athletics' four-game series against the Orioles, there was a paid attendance of 20,206 in all four games. The Monday was the Athletics' home opener. In the Rangers' final game of the homestand against the Angels, Texas drew 22,650.
The Rangers went 4-5 in Oakland in 2021. All three series in Oakland are weekend series, including a four-game series in May.
In Glenn Otto's two minor league starts at Round Rock this year, he pitched seven shutout innings. He allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out nine. Otto threw forty-six pitches in the first outing and fifty-three in the second.
The Rangers are looking for their first two-game winning streak of 2022.
Texas doesn't have a win by a starting pitcher or recorded save twelve games into the season.
