Game Recap
After a rough loss Friday, the Rangers came back against the Guardians at home with Glenn Otto on the mound. Before the game, some injury news hit Texas. First, it didn't appear serious for the Adolis García hit by pitch. Initial X-Rays were negative, and the Rangers could use Adolis in a pinch-hit scenario if needed. Then, however, Texas lost Dane Dunning for the season as he was having arthroscopic hip surgery on Monday. "It got to a point where I feel that it was the right opportunity to go ahead to get it done and go into next year hopefully stronger," Dane Dunning said. "The biggest part where it flared up this year was the first pitch [and the] first play [verses] the Blue Jays (September 9th). I went down and tried to cover that, and it hurt really bad. [I] end up throwing the ball up the line [and] it felt weird the rest of the game."
The Rangers started with a quick chance in the first. Corey Seager doubled with one out, but the Rangers could not advance him past second base. In the third, Marcus Semien blasted a solo home run to left center field to score the night's first run. The Rangers had another chance in the fourth with two on base (on two singles). However, Sam Huff struck out, and Josh Smith grounded out to end the threat. Cleveland picked up their first hit and first run in the fifth as Oscar González homered near the same spot Semien hit as the game evened up at one. Following that, Andrés Giménez doubled, but like the Rangers first, the Guardians could not advance Giménez past second base. In the sixth, the Guardians picked up a leadoff triple by Ahmed Rosario, but Rosario did not score, and the game stayed even at one.
Meantime, Cleveland took their first lead of the night as Giménez whacked a line drive home run just over the wall in right field. The Guardians added another run in the eighth as Rosario doubled home Myles Straw, extending the Cleveland lead to 3-1. With two on, Sam Huff gunned down Rosario at third for a caught stealing and Brock Burke struck out Josh Naylor to prevent any further damage. Oscar González struck again in the ninth with another solo homerun. His second went do dead central field over the 407 wall to put Cleveland up three. The Rangers got a run in the ninth on a Sam Huff deep drive to center field, but the Rangers couldn't pick up anything else against Clase or the Guardians bullpen and fell in the series. "It was a good pitch and just put a good swing on it," Sam Huff said. "We've had [Clase] and I remember seeing him back in 2019 and kind of talking to him as a dude. Good pitcher, good stuff, and put a good swing on it, and not trying to do too more."
Against a formidable Cleveland lineup, Glenn Otto pitched a good game on Saturday. He allowed one baserunner (a walk) for the first four innings. After that, things turned a little hectic with a home run and a double back-to-back to start the fifth, but Otto worked out of it and left after 5.2 innings. On the night, Glenn gave up three hits, one walk, one run, and three strikeouts on seventy-three pitches. "Glenn did a good job today," Tony Beasley said. "He threw the ball well. [Otto] still had the same velocity in his fastball that we saw two or three starts ago. He did a good job for us and pitched into the sixth inning. I was pleased on how he pitched tonight."
Brock Burke entered with two outs and kept the game even. Though Burke allowed a solo home run and a RBI double in his 2.1 innings. Brock struck out two and walked two. Matt Moore allowed a ninth inning home run in his inning of work, he retired the next three faced on the night.
